I have to mention that I had no idea that Jack had a previous book, and I am truly bummed about that fact because I loved his sister's trilogy so much and had hoped he would get his own story. I was all over it when I saw that this was Jack's story. It was November 7, 2016, when I finished the last book of Jill/Jessica's story so I thought it was about time. Still, as I mentioned, Jack had a previous book that I somehow missed and wished I had known about before I read this one because I felt as if I needed that part of his life before this one. That does not mean this cannot be read as a standalone because it most definitely can. It just means I am picky that way.
Frankie is at her brother's house taking care of things after the loss of her nephew and sister-in-law, both of whom committed suicide; it should be mentioned that her brother had committed suicide a few years earlier as well. As if dealing with all of that wasn't enough she reads a note that her nephew's girlfriend had written him, which tells him it's okay for him to move on and leave this world for a better place. Seriously, folks, reading that letter was bone-chilling, and Frankie is determined to make her pay for it. The lengths she goes to, well, let's just say it's not only the girl that will pay for her careless words.
Jackson is living in an older woman's garage, bidding his time until he can find the perfect time to mete justice out the only way he knows how. He doesn't expect the woman next door to call out to him in a way that no one has in a long time.
This story is sometimes difficult to read; if you have triggers, you may want to check the book blurb and possibly the author's website before diving in. My heart broke, but Jewel E. Ann mended it by the end of Jack and Frankie's story.
I would recommend this book to Adult Readers who enjoy STEAMY Romantic Suspense Reads, Darker Reads, Age Gap Romances, Grumpy/Sunshine Romances, Love after Loss Romances, Revenge Romances, Neighbor to Lover Romances, Protector Romances, Anti-hero Romances, or Trauma / Grief Romances.

Why did I think that Jack already got an HEA or at least and HFN? I thought we were done with these older characters LOL. I read the Jack and Jill trilogy and ONE and thought that was it. I don't know if I'm ready for this, but how can I resist??? Excellent review XO
ReplyDeleteThank you Natalie. I didn't read One or his daughter Livvy's book, Out of Love, but at some point he became a widower. So this book is giving him a chance at love again, love after loss.
