The Girl in the Woods (Misted Pines #2) by Kristen Ashley ~ Book Review

The Girl in the Woods, an all-new, thrilling standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley filled with off-the-charts chemistry, and edge of your seat suspense, is out now!

This body would be the last for Zachariah Lazarus…

The Crystal Killer’s latest casualty was discovered in a sleepy town in the Pacific Northwest, Misted Pines.

His years in the FBI, and tracking the Crystal Killer, have taken their toll on Rus. He lost his marriage to the job. And the burdens he carries for the victims was crushing him.

Misted Pines has recently survived a killer’s rampage and a town scandal that made global news. The media was primed to devour a new story. So Rus already has his work cut out for him.

But it’s more.

Something is just not right with this latest victim.

As Rus works with the local sheriff to unravel the mystery, the victim’s employer, Lucinda Bonner, decides she’s going to do everything she can to help.

To help Rus find the killer. To help Rus survive the hunt. To help Rus navigate the intricate, and sometimes sordid, history of the town of Misted Pines.

And to help Rus let go of his burdens.

The Misted Pines Series is unlike any other Series Kristen Ashley has written, yes she writes Romantic Suspense but this is WAYYYYY different from that. THE GIRL IN THE WOODS is a true thriller, we are talking about Serial Killers, details of their killings, and other sensitive subjects so please make sure you read the warnings she has posted before you dive into this book.

FBI Special Agent Zachariah Lazarus (Rus) is on a case tracking the Crystal Killer and a murder fitting the MO has him arriving in Misted Pines, but one look at the crime scene and he knows this isn't the work of CK but a copycat and that isn't a good thing.

The investigation of Brittanie Iverson's murder brings Rus to Lucinda (Cin) Bonner's door. Brittanie worked as a dancer at Cin's Burlesque Show, but she was much more than that as he soon found out.

The way the Crystal Killer kills and stages his victims is not for sensitive readers, as I stated before please check the warnings before starting this book but if you decide to go ahead you are in for one heck of a read. This was a fast paced book I didn't feel it lag at any time and I kid you not when I say that if real life didn't get in the way I would have finished it in one day. I couldn't get enough of the "who done it?" and would the real CK come and find the copycat himself? And if he did what would that mean?

The chemistry between Rus and Cin was great but it's a side story as the main story was definitely finding who killed Brittanie and finding the Crystal Killer. If you have read Kristen Ashley's books before this book is open door romance but not as explicit as previous books because as I said the romance is not the main focus but know that there is some very sexy scenes but just not as many as you may be use to.

I loved that Rus was not intimidated by the STRONG Kick Ass woman Lucinda is. She is classy, extremely well dressed (I'd kill for her wardrobe), wealthy, the CEO of a Conglomerate, and a great mother. It takes a strong man to love a woman like Cin and Rus is the perfect man for her and her daughter Madden.

If you enjoy Romantic Thrillers, Dark Reads, or are a fan of Kristen Ashley's I would highly recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!
