If this is your first Melissa Foster book, please note that Finding My Girl is not a novel, a novella, or even a typical short story. It is a graphic companion booklet to the full-length contemporary romance novel, Love Like Ours, featuring Talia Dalton and Derek Grant. In Love Like Ours, one of the many ways Derek shows his love for Talia is through cute and loving sketches depicting their lives as they came together. Finding My Girl is a collection of those images, along with a couple of images that Jonah, Derek's father, had drawn for his wife, Eva. Within these pages you will also find heartfelt messages from Derek to Talia that are not found in the original novel. As a bonus, the first chapter of Love Like Ours is included in the back of the booklet.
This book was amazing, I loved Talia and Derek's story in Love Like Ours and the little sneak peaks of his drawings, this book is compiled of not only Derek's drawings and notes to Talia but also his father's drawings to his mother, Jonah and Eva. So sweet!!!
This is a companion booklet so please make sure you have read Love Like Ours before you read this otherwise it will contain spoilers and where's the fun in that? I haven't read a graphic novel or graphic image book before so this was a new concept for me and I have to admit I really liked it. Some may say it's a picture book but it's oh so much more than that. The drawings were absolutely amazing, the illustrator, Oliver Harbour, is beyond talented, the story really came to life in the sketches and the little love notes that went along with them really added to the story. I would love to see more companion booklets like this when it fits into the story.
