Only With Me (Sugarland Creek #4) by Brooke Montgomery ~ Book Review

A forbidden age gap stand-alone from small-town romance author Brooke Montgomery about a girl who connects with a mysterious man and her sister’s older ex-boyfriend who knows he should stay away…

Looking back, I shouldn’t have sent a half-naked photo to the group chat.

But when someone asks about a specific horse saddle, I caution them to be careful or their ass will look like mine—covered in bruises.

While everyone makes inappropriate jokes, a guy who recently joined shows concern about my well-being. Turns out, “bruising like a peach” isn’t normal.

One innocent photo turns into more and soon we’re texting every day.

The only problem—I have no idea who he is or his age. Even so, I find myself smiling at his messages and wanting to know more about him.

Until the time comes when we’re supposed to finally meet and he stands me up.

At the advice of my best friend, I sign up for a dating app because I’m not about to let one guy ruin it for me. But one after another, they either stop responding or block me.

After stumbling across my sister’s older ex-boyfriend on the same app, I ask him for advice. I beg him to teach me how to please a man and how to have more sexual confidence.

When he reluctantly agrees, things evolve between us, lines get crossed, and I find myself falling for the wrong person.

Except, I can’t shake this uneasy feeling about the mystery guy from the group chat—the one who never showed up. But people don’t just vanish without a trace in a Southern small town.

Only With Me is book 4 in the Sugarland Creek series. Each book in this Southern, small-town series is a stand-alone and ends in a happily ever after.

I love a good age-gap romance, and this one had the added trope of an ex-girlfriend's sibling, which I haven't read too often, so it made it all the more enjoyable.

If you have read any of the books in this series, you'll know that Waylon is one of the eldest twin brothers. Wilder is the other, and his book is up next. They seem to be all about partying and hooking up, but this story shows a different side of Waylon, one you wouldn't have guessed from previous books. I am glad we got to see this side of him.

Getting to know Harlow's backstory was a bit heartbreaking. She suffered a lot, and because of that, she is very inexperienced. Instead of being a typical twenty-year-old, she was more like a sixteen—or seventeen-year-old regarding experience. So when she saw her older sister's ex on a dating app, she thought he would be the perfect person to "teach" her how to please a man; she really doesn't have a clue what she's getting herself into.

I enjoyed the story's secret romance and hidden identity aspect because both showed just how hard Waylon was fighting with himself about getting involved with the younger Harlow, not that she minded at all. A twelve-year age gap is hard for some people, but let's lay the cards out: his sister is married to her ex-boyfriend's dad, so if his family were going to have any issues with the age difference, I think they would be past it by now.

The chemistry between Harlow and Waylon was great, the Mental Health Representation was well done, and the set-up for Wilder's book made me wish it was already February.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy STEAMY Contemporary Romances, Cowboy Romances, Age-Gap Romances, Small-Town Romances, Hidden-Identity Romances, Secret Romances, or Siblings Ex Romances.

Happy Reading!!!
