A clang echoes through the alley. My heart jolts in my chest. My phone. It lies at my feet. The screen is dark. Cracked.
Aghast, I look from the cause of the noise to the men in the alley. The man loosened his hold on Mr. Lewis. My boss lies on his side next to his briefcase, staring at me with wide, glassy eyes.
“F#ck,” the bulky man says, snarling as he trains his gaze on me.

I am fairly new to Charmaine Pauls' books, I have only read her Corsican Crime Lord Series thus far, but I am slowly changing that with the start of this new series, New York Underworld, and we're off to a great start.
In this first book, Coerced Kiss, we meet Saverio and Anya; the first time they meet, you will hold your breath because she witnesses him killing her boss. Yes, you read that correctly. Then he makes her his alibi, so what can she do after that? Can she go to the police? Sure, if she wants to end up the way her boss did. So, she does what she needs to do. She plays her part as Sav's girlfriend.
The chemistry was excellent, and not to spoil anything, but they each have so many secrets. I cannot wait to see what happens next with Sav and Anya.
If you listen to Audiobooks, Michelle Sparks and Gideon Frost did the Duet Narration of this book, and it is fantastic. They brought Sav and Anya to life, adding a layer to the story.
