A Christmas story for Dark Romance Lovers? Yep, that is exactly what we have here. Alta Hensley gives Dark Romance Readers a Stalker Romance to whet your holiday appetite. After reading two Contemporary Holiday Romances and diving into this one, I created all kinds of scenarios in my mind about what Alta could have in store for us. I was ready for whatever ride she took us on.
Chloe was in a terrible car accident where her parents died, and Jack has "been keeping an eye on her" ever since, that's two years, people. Chloe has had a stalker for two years and never picked up on it. I'm not sure what that says about her being aware of her surroundings, which you are taught at a young age while raised in NYC. But then again, she is heavy in grief, so it's understandable for a little while. During this time, Fireman Jack, who was the one who rescued Chloe, felt his need to watch over her steadily increase into an obsession but just went with it even though he had the good angel / bad devil battle within.
Then we have Tyler, who works for Moth to the Flame, the company Chloe is a jewelry influencer for. He immediately gives off major creep vibes, but his presence in the story is questionable. Tyler was at the beginning and the end but nowhere to be found in the middle, almost like he was forgotten about for a while. I didn't think he added anything to the story besides giving it more creepy vibes. Honestly, if he was cut, I wouldn't miss him.
Jack and Chloe are pretty similar in character as they both put on a sweet persona on the outside, but they have some dark and kinky within them. I loved this about them because we all know people are not like cookie cutters; we are all different, and who we portray to the people we meet may not reflect our authentic selves either. People are complex, and both Jack and Chloe showed just how complex people can be. Jack, the firefighter, is caring and helps wherever he can. He also has a dark side that no one sees until he lets Chloe know that side of him. Chloe is a wholesome jewelry influencer who is as sweet as apple pie and needs to keep that image for her following, so if anyone ever found out that she is also a Camgirl named DarkasChlo, she would be ruined. See what I mean, no cookie cutters here.
