He let out a long breath. Helplessness pricked my heart, bleeding into my veins and spreading like molten lava. His tender gaze held so much softness I nearly forgot it was Hawkin staring back at me. My eyes dipped to his lips, noticing his firm, well-shaped mouth. Nothing between us would be the same. No matter what decision I made next.

Hawkin leaned in excruciatingly slow. The anticipation alone im- mobilized me. He held his position, allowing me the option to pull away. Our breaths blended. Hawkin gazed at my lips, and when I didn’t retreat, he closed the last space between us. He claimed my mouth, speaking through our kiss. His lips were firm and guiding.
